Inspiring Sunsets From My Window

I love sunsets. I feel deeply moved when I see a sunset. And no two are the same, even when viewed from the same place again and again. The following pictures I took from my office window at home prove that. They are all different, yet all stunning.

If you would look through my picture folders on my laptop you’d find many sunset pictures, either taken at home in The Netherlands or in far-flung places around the world. I can’t help it – when I see a sunset, I want to capture the essence, the feeling, and the beauty I experience in that moment.

And then I want to use it as inspiration for my artwork.

I also think it’s one of the reasons why I love JMW Turner’s work so much. His use of colour and light in his sunsets is out of this world. His work has (had) a huge influence on some of my own drawings and paintings.

What are you deeply moved by? And how do you use it in your (creative) work? Please share your answers in the comments below, I would love to hear them.

  • Sunsets for me too! I always feel as if the earth is holding its breath somehow. I love sunrises for the same reason but don’t see nearly enough of them these days – unless I’m on holiday and not needing my 7hrs.

  • Thanks for stopping by Susanna! I would love to get up more often for sunrises, but I am afraid I love my sleep too much. Although having said that, they are easier to witness in the winter when the sun rises later…
